Students’ and Instructors’ Understandings, Attitudes and Beliefs about Educational Theories: Results of a Mixed-Methods Study

(1) Background: Educational theories are a constitutive element of educational studies. Despite their theoretical relevance, little is still known about students’ and instructors’ understandings theory-related attitudes beliefs. (2) Methods: To elucidate these constructs to test we conducted mixed-methods study with 32 students 12 instructors studies at German university. (3) Results: We found that both groups perceived as rather abstract concepts. Students reported negative naive For groups, beliefs were strongly tied motivational affective aspects when dealing theories, which stresses relevance for (4) Conclusions: suggest systematic clarification the term theories. Furthermore, consideration can give rise meaningful practical implications (e.g., through self-reflection).
